Sony Release the DSR-PD175P Compact DVCAM Camcorder

The NEW DSR-PD175P is Sony’s replacement for the DSR-PD170P,the original PD170 was a popular choice among networks, production houses and documentary makers thanks to it's compact size, professional sound recording XLR inputs and standard def quality.

Bringing the spirit of the DSR-PD170 forward the PD175 has a variety of new features, such as the new G lens, which can be found on Sony's HVR-Z5E. It now also records in 16:9 framing where as the previous model only allowed 4:3 recording. Other changes to the new DSR-PD175P include new chips; the original PD170 used CCD's where as now the new 175P uses the 1/3" CMOS Sensors. This gives the camera a distinct advantage in low light capabilities as it enables the camera to operate with a minimum illumination of 1.5 lux. Other new design features of the camera include a 16:9 rear viewfinder; a new 16:9 LCD flip out screen and new ergonomically designed functional layout.

It is possible to mistake the DSR-PD175 as a re-modelled Z5E but on closer inspection there are some noticeable differences. The PD175P has been stripped bare of luxuries such as HDMI connection and the ability to directly mount the HVR-MRC1K compact flash recording unit. There are very few accessories with the DSR-PD175P camera; you will get a lens hood, eye cup for the viewfinder, A/V Composite cable, a manual and a remote control. No batteries, mic or additional hot shoe are supplied with the camera, but are all available as an accessory item. It is a much simpler camera in function, unlike the majority of Sony cameras; this particular model is purely based at the SD market, and does not have the function for HDV recording. Sony's G lens is a fully professional fixed lens with separate three ring operation of the zoom, focus and iris. The PD175P also features three individual dial N.D filters to allow the user to operate in a variety of light conditions, with minimal problem.

Sony have clearly recognised the continuining need to film in SD and have targeted their audience with the NEW introduction of the DSR-PD175P camera.
